Family story 2012-2013

Living at Y/L/ Baruch, Herzlia

Family trips: To the Dead Sea together with Marcos and his family, staying at the Lot Hotel where Miriam and Shlomo would spend a week or two every year.

After the Pesach Seder at Y.L. We went to the Field School in the Golan all of us staying in one dormitory and sleeping in  double decker bunks. The Banias stream was directly below us making a very memorable holiday.

Fanny and I did a roots trip to Poland, Lithuania and Belarus. We visited the towns where our grandparents were born, and where many of our ancestors were murdered.

Afterwards we went for a few days to St. Petersburg in Russia. This trip was in May, springtime, so everything was green and quite different from the picture I had in my mind of Eastern Europe and the Pale of Settlement as very grey. I still ask myself why my parents and family never talked much to us about family left behind, but only about the Holocaust in general terms.

We returned from Europe in time for Mai’s wedding. Alon came from Los Angeles

David visited us in June, 2013 and he came sailing with us.

Yaniv and Darcy stayed in Tel Aviv, Darcy fell pregnant and Stav was born there. Our first grandchild and the start of a new era in our lives.

Vero, Daniel and Marcos Yisrael came to Israel at the same time that Alice came, to be with Darcy and her new grandson. She celebrated Rosh Hashana with us, with Shlomo, Miriam and Nubia, Miriam’s caregiver and Julie.

Margot started visiting us quite often and I welcome this very happily.

Dave also came to see Stav

After Martin Kagan died David Kagan came to rebury him on Kibbutz Ein Hashofet. Martin had maintained a connection with the kibbutz and a ceremony was held there together with Lionya, Mila, Candy Kane (Pinkus) and some of the Ofek family.
