First friends
I remember a few friends from nursery school (kindergarden) during the years 1957 to 1959 especially a girl named Pnina whom I visited at her home. We (my brother, David and I) also spent some time with our next-door neighbours. I remember learning to handle snails with them. David, you could say, was my first friend and we did everything together. Our parents would visit their friends and we played with their kids too. In my first year at school I had several friends and I remember visiting the homes of Jeffrey, Eitan, Julian and Warren all in Orange Grove. Jeffery later moved to the house next door and Warren’s family moved to a house on Linksfield Ridge (the kopje).
Another neighbour, Benjy became our friend. We spent many an hour together on our bicycles and also on the kopje, trying to make traps for rabbits. We never succeeded.
Tony, who lived down the street, became my best friend when I was in Primary School.
